Travel Log

We left Hatch at a leisurely time and made our way over towards Zion National Park. There wasn’t much of interest on the way, except a herd of buffalo, and sadly nowhere to refuel with a decent coffee.

We stopped briefly at the Checkboard Mesa for some photos in the intense heat and interesting rocks. The time on the road today was quite short and this gave us time to explore Springdale and get some lunch at MeMe’s Cafe (we had delicious enchiladas and the kids chicken strips) before checking and then taking the park shuttle up to Zion lodge. The park was hot and busy but we got a sense of it via the park movie at the visitor centre. Alex and I were last here 18 years when we did the two most famous hikes - the Narrows and Angel’s Landing. Neither of these are suitable for a 5 year old really!

Springdale was a lovely little town and the Bumbleberry shop and ice cream place was a good find with great coffee and ice cream choices, Jasper loved the flavour Birthday Cake.

Once we were home for the day we were glad to escape the heat in the hotel pool. Unfortunately our ‘self catered’ hotel room was really just a microwave and fridge and it was difficult to book the food we had arrived with. We ended up trying to make pasta in a microwave and eating left overs.
