Day 3 - Telluride
Telluride Village · Telluride mountain resort
Travel Log
We woke to enjoy the fresh mountain air and gorgeous views from our balcony. The kids had popcorn for breakfast! We headed to Telluride on the magnificent scenic drive from Ridgway. Telluride is tucked into a steep glacially-carved cirque and is utterly spectacular. We found a cute bakery and ate the best bagels in the world! We then headed up the free gondala to 10,700 ft to look down on Telluride and Mountain Village. We were definitely feeling the heat and the altitude so didn’t stay long, lingering to take in the vista and to see the nature museum. Back down in Telluride we took the river trail to the town park (there was a skate contest going on) and then had several dips in the river to cool off as we meandered back to the car park (car henge!).
Following the recommendation of the nice lady at the visitor information office we drove up the valley to see Bridal Veil Falls, but she failed to mention that the last mile or so was unpaved which our minivan would not have survived and Bess (who seemed to be struggling most in the heat) would not have survived the hike so we called it a day and headed back on the pretty drive to Ridgway. Something to save for another trip.
The kids had a play in the shady park on the village green and we picked up groceries for dinner. All the travelling caught up with us and the kids were fast asleep by 6:30.
Overall Telluride seems like the perfect mountain town, and we loved the Aspen trees everywhere.
