Day 17 - Grindelwald North Face Trail

2025 Switzerland day 17

Sleep location
Grindelwald

Travel Log

Our last full day and we wanted to head back to Mürren to walk the north face trail. We were now seasoned so we headed straight for the good coffee shop for more coffee and smoothies. Unfortunately Jasper managed to drop and smash his smoothie on the first sip, broken glass everywhere! The staff cleared it up and gave us a new smoothie. We left 10CHF for their trouble.

It was already feeling like a hotter day than yesterday but when we got up to Allmendhubel there was a breeze at least. After a brief play in the playground we headed to the north face trail, with a steady climb uphill for the first bit. The cow trough drinking fountains were very welcome to top up our water bottles and soak our heads in cool water.

The highlight of the walk was the Sprutz waterfall where you actually walk behind the water. Because of all the spray it was also cool too.

The descent into Gimmelwald was steep and the water fountain in the village never tasted so good. We got ice lollies from the honesty shop and timed the cable car down to the valley much better than yesterday. All in all the walk didn’t take too long and so we could head to the swimming pool in Grindelwald with plenty of time to enjoy the afternoon. Parking was a bit of a nightmare at the pool so Nick dropped everyone off and did a few laps hoping for a space before giving up and going to Terminal.

The pool was busy but the kids had a lot of fun and ate well from their chicken nuggets and chips. Alex had the burger which was surprisingly excellent. After nearly 3 hours of endless slide fun Bess got hurt as they were stopping mid-slide and another group crashed into them. That was the point to call it a day.

Back at the chalet we relaxed on the patio, packing our bags ready for an early departure tomorrow for our drive to the airport.
